We went on our first family road trip this past weekend as Krish just passed his Japanese drivers exam, and we were itching to explore outside Tokyo. We decided to drive to Lake Kawaguchiko and Oishi Park, about a 90-minute drive from Tokyo via the Chuo Expressway located in the Yamanashi Prefecture near Mount Fuji.
Depending on the season, Lake Kawaguchiko can be surrounded by beautiful flowers or fall foliage. On the north shore of Kawaguchiko, Oishi Park is a park where you will see some of the most magnificent views of Fujisan. Oshi Park is also home to the Kawaguchiko Natural Living Center, where you can learn to make your blueberry jam and purchase. You can also buy food, souvenirs, and soft-serve ice cream here.
We walked around Oishi Parks and took in the magnificent views of Mount Fuji and the lavender blooms. The area was an excellent area for toddlers to run around. Mila certainly enjoyed sharing with me the colors of all the flowers she saw while running around “Flower Street”.
Depending on the time of the year you visit Oishi Park, you can encounter the below flowers in bloom:
- Late April – tulips, narcissus, rape
- Early May – pink moss phlox
- June to early July – lavender
- Late June to early October – begonia
- Late October – red kochi
- Niagara Fall by the lights” is held in winter, and you can see Mt.Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko with fantastic illuminations

Looks stunning there!
